About us and our background

We have provided specialized services in ophthalmology in Medellín since 1985. Today,
we are a leading name in the sector. We have state-of-the-art technology, and try to
surgically solve our patients’ problems with it. Of all the medical attention processes, our comprehensive approach is focused on working on health promotion, prevention and research. We have a strategic branch in Cucuta.

A dream was born

The idea was born after the trips to the U.S. made by doctor Gabriel Eduardo Marin and
Alberto Abelino Saldarriaga.

They resorted to the idea of a cooperative movement, as understood by doctor Stephen
Clair, who claimed both Marin and Saldarriaga had great potential, as ophthalmology still
remained an underdeveloped medical specialty in Colombia.

Purchase of the plot and start of the construction of the first site

The construction of the first site of the clinic was done under the direction of Gabriel
Eduardo Marin, together with Marin Ramos Architects.

We opened the ophthalmology service

The provision of the service of ophthalmology started in a house located in Sandiego
neighborhood, close to El Poblado avenue.

We opened our own first site

We opened our own first site in Sandiego neighborhood, and that is when the partnership
started.

We opened our Cucuta branch

We opened the first branch of our clinic in Cucuta, interested in spreading the service of
ophthalmology throughout the whole country.

We purchased the plot and started the construction of the present site

A new experience of service: the new site was inspired by the model of attention of a big
hotel. That is why there are great spaces before you access each of the services, which
have all the conditions for the comfort of both visitors and patients.

The new building is safer. It follows the whole NSR-10 (Colombian Regulations for Seismic-
Resistant Constructions) thoroughly, which puts it at the level of most modern
constructions. The system manages both the extinguishing and the start of a fire, and
consists of smoke detectors and sprinklers.

We opened our present site

With its 31,000 m 2 , the Clinic is the biggest one specialized in ophthalmology in Latin
America. It was designed under the highest international standards for modern hospital
building.

In the same place, patients and visitors will find all the technology necessary for diagnosis,
treatment and surgical correction of eye diseases, with high quality and safety standards.

We opened new specialties

With the purpose of providing more comprehensive service to our patients, we started offering the services of otolaryngology and dermatology in the offices of our Clinic.

We opened the Dry Eye Unit

Beyond eye drops, our Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Unit has the best technology for the
diagnosis and treatment of such pathology, besides the cleaning and comfort therapy for
both eyelids and lashes.

We have a new service: extended hours

Our priority attention is intended to provide our patients with the service of
ophthalmology in a broader schedule, which includes weekends and bank holidays:

Monday to Friday: 6:30 AM – 9:30 PM

Saturdays: 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Sundays and bank holidays: 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
