Electrophysiological studies

Such studies consist of several tests:

Visual evoked potential: It is used in the diagnosis of neurological diseases compromising optical nerves.

Electroretinogram: It is a test which allows measuring the electrical response of retinal cells before light. It is used to assess the operation of retina. Besides, it is also useful to assess and diagnose several pathologies associated to the retina, such as cell dystrophy, swellings, venous occlusion and diabetic retinopathy.

Electrooculography: It is used in the diagnosis of congenital degenerative diseases in the retina and macula.


Recommendations for this test:

  • Bring a copy of your medical record.
  • Come with your face clean, without any make-up, sun-block, or creams.
  • Come with your hair clean, with no gel, creams, or hair spray.
  • Pupil dilation is required during the procedure, for this reason it is necessary to come with accompaniment.
  • Don’t drive or do any activity implying risk after the test.
  • Don’t do any activities that imply close vision during the first 4 or 6 hours, depending on each patient’s condition.
