Visual evoked potential

Visual evoked potentials are neurophysiological techniques which register brain responses generated by visual stimuli.

What is it useful for?

This test is useful to value a series of pathologies of the optical nerve and the occipital cortex, such as maculopathy, optic neuropathies secondary to demyelinating diseases, ischemic optic neuritis, optic neuropathies due to toxins (alcohol, tobacco and drugs), amblyopias, alteration of the optical nerve due to traumas or tumors, early diagnosis of glaucoma.



Recommendations for this test:

  • Be at the information counter 30 minutes before the appointment.
  • Bring a copy of your medical record.
  • Wash your hair the day before, with shampoo.
  • Come with your hair clean, with no gel, creams, or hair spray.
  • If the patient is a minor under 5 years of age, he must come unrested, so that he may sleep during the test.
  • If it is an adult, accompaniment is not necessary.
